A mobile bar is one of the easiest ways to give a barn, marquee or garden wedding a proper bar, and in Surrey there are plenty to choose from. They differ less in looks than in how the money works: who supplies the drinks, who pays for them, whether there is a minimum spend, and who holds the licence.
This guide covers six bars that serve Surrey weddings, four of them based in the county. Everything comes from the bars' own websites and GOV.UK or Surrey council pages, checked in October 2026. The photo shows a converted Citroën van bar of the kind several firms use; it was taken in Peebles and is not one of the bars below.
Three ways to pay
- Cash bar
- Guests buy their own drinks. Many bars ask for a minimum spend, and you make up any shortfall.
- Prepaid or free bar
- You pay for the drinks, either as a set package per head or as a tab with a limit.
- Dry hire
- You hire the bar itself and supply the drinks; staff may or may not be included.
Do you need a licence?
Selling alcohol needs a licence. Many wedding venues already have a premises licence. If yours doesn't, for example a private garden or a field, a Temporary Event Notice (TEN) can cover it. GOV.UK says the fee is £21, the event must have fewer than 500 people at all times including staff, and the notice must reach the council at least 10 clear working days before the event. A late TEN can be given between 9 and 5 working days before, but each person can give only two a year (ten with a personal licence), so don't leave it late. Surrey councils such as Mole Valley and Surrey Heath set out the same rules on their own sites.
Some bars apply for the TEN for you; Raise Your Glass and Buttercup Bus both say so. If you give your guests drinks you supplied yourself, with nothing sold, Raise Your Glass notes that no licence is needed for its dry hire.

Before you book
Ask whether there is a minimum spend and what happens if guests don't reach it. Check who holds the licence, and whether your venue has one or needs a TEN. Ask what the bar needs on site: access for a vehicle or trailer, level ground, power and water. And check whether prices include VAT, travel, glassware and ice.
