Marquee and Tipi Hire for Weddings in Surrey

Nine marquee, tipi and tent firms that serve Surrey weddings, with what they put up, what they include, the prices they publish and how long set-up takes.

Editorial Staff · 16 October 2026 · 10 min read

A marquee turns a garden, a farm field or an estate lawn into a wedding venue, and Surrey has a good number of family firms that have been putting them up for decades. The quotes can look very different, because firms bundle different things: some prices include the linings, carpet, dance floor, tables and chairs, while others start with a bare structure.

This guide covers nine firms that serve Surrey weddings, six of them based in the county. Everything comes from the firms' own websites and legislation.gov.uk, checked in October 2026; prices are as published then. The photo shows clearspan marquees on the lawn at Buckland House in Devon, and is not the work of any firm below.

Which kind of tent?

Clearspan (frame) marquee
An aluminium-frame marquee, built in set widths and to almost any length. Most of the firms below offer these.
Traditional pole marquee
Canvas on wooden poles, for the classic peaked look. Carron Marquees still hires these.
Tipi
Tall round tents that can be linked together. Tribeca Tipis' giant tipi seats 48.
Stretch tent
A fabric canopy on poles. Time Marquees' smaller stretch tent seats 70.

What a quote should include

Ask whether the price includes linings, flooring (carpet over a boarded sub-floor on uneven ground), a dance floor, lighting, tables and chairs, heating, and delivery, set-up and collection. Toilets, a generator and a separate catering tent are often extra, and crockery may not be included: Crystal Marquee Hire, for example, doesn't supply it. Several firms add a damage waiver, and some say whether their price includes VAT and some don't.

Several firms put the marquee up two or three days before a weekend wedding and take it down on the Monday or Tuesday after, so check that your venue or field is free for the whole period.

Do you need planning permission?

For a field, the law lets land be used temporarily for any purpose for up to 28 days in a calendar year, including putting up moveable structures for that use (Class B, Part 4 of the permitted development order). That rule does not cover land within the grounds of a building, such as a house's garden, and camping is excluded unless it is part of a festival, which can matter for bell-tent villages. If you are unsure, ask your borough or district council before you book.

Before you book

Ask for a site visit: firms need to see the ground, access for their lorries, and where power, toilets and catering will go. Get the quote itemised so you can compare like with like, and ask whether it includes VAT and a damage waiver. Check the set-up and take-down days against your venue or field booking. And if the marquee is going on a field rather than in a garden, ask the council early about planning.
